So whosoever inherits, his successor inherits that property. Like that the karma that the man in Cosmic Consciousness does, whatever influence is produced, that influence is shared by all other people, not by him. Everyone else in the universe inherits that, shares that karma. He remains uninvolved.

Question: But obviously it seems to be that also those who meditate for some time, are suffering?

Maharishi: They must be suffering less than before. When we proceed towards the light, we are in a better light. Maybe we are not in a complete light, but we are better than before.

Question: Could you say something more about that state, if someone dies in God Consciousness?

Maharishi: One doesn’t die in God Consciousness, nor one dies in Cosmic Consciousness. That [death] doesn’t touch them. God Consciousness and Cosmic Consciousness are the states of eternal life. That doesn’t touch them.

Question: Does one need the grace of God to get to God Consciousness, or is it enough to use the technique to get from Cosmic Consciousness to God Consciousness? Maharishi: Technique is by the grace of God.

Question: Is it an eternal life with all the time the same body, or is it an eternal life with interchanging bodies?

Maharishi: Not interchanging bodies, certainly. Take it as I say it. Eternal life could be with this body, and eternal life will be cosmic life without the body, where the individuality will not be found. Otherwise it could be that the ageing process is stopped and one could eternally continue with this body. That is also possible. Both possibilities are there. Does it make sense?

Question: Is it up to the will of the person to continue with the body?

Maharishi: Not only will. But something more than the will could keep the body. Something more will be that technique which will stop the process of change in the physical level.

Question: There was the answer whether the Cosmic Consciousness would be the result of the evolution or a natural state and you said: it could be both. Now, in which case could it be the one, and in which case could it be the other?

Maharishi: By regular practice of meditation and taking it easy, in this life, in this body we could accomplish Cosmic Consciousness. And by not meditating, or by some times meditating and then taking another body and then again taking another body, we’ll come to that state of evolution after many lives. And by being regular, we could achieve it now, here. .no, no man in Cosmic Consciousness would be born. By birth no one would be in Cosmic Consciousness. To be in Cosmic Consciousness at the time of birth, he will have to be in Cosmic Consciousness at the time of death. And if he is in Cosmic Consciousness at the time of death, then he is not born. Therefore no one man can be born in Cosmic Consciousness. He may be 99%, and 1% has to be fulfilled in this life for which he has taken birth.

Transcendental Meditation in Mumbaihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08932097069572341041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181310761581676246.post-11063008220455046482020-09-18T22:13:00.000-07:002020-09-18T22:13:13.502-07:00Maharishi on Support of Nature in our activities - Kumbha Mela, 1966
We have only to be true to ourself

Maharishi: We don’t have to use the almighty nature, it is there for spontaneous use. See the spontaneity of help from nature? We don’t have to request or do anything to get support of nature. Just an aspiration and that is the aspiration of the almighty nature and it is carried out quick. This is what they say ‘First deserve and then desire’. Once we deserve and we deserve by making full use of all the aspects of our life–mental, physical, spiritual, all aspects of life. And once we begin to make full use of our own individual existence, there is that unlimited power of nature to support us. ‘God helps those who help themself’. Helping themself means, you bring out all what you have inside. And if you are able to help yourself, if you are able to come out with what you are fully, then the power of nature is there to support. ‘God helps those who help themself’. It is only when we are true to ourself. You don’t have to be true to Mother Nature. We have only to be true to ourself. And be true to ourself means, when we speak, the speech should have full support of Being. Then we are true to ourself. Otherwise we have reserved Being, have kept Being out of speech. And then speech will be weak. Then we are not true to our speech. We are speaking baselessly. If our action, the field of action, is not supported by Being, then we have kept aside, kept in reserve, some precious part of our life and we are not exposing it to the outer gross. That means the whole outer field of action is baseless. That means we are not true to action, because we are not providing the very basis to the action. So we are not true while we are acting. Like that, if we are true to ourself means, all the different components of our life are in good harmony and are well disposed to every aspiration of ours, to every action of ours. Then we are truthful to ourself and in this state the entire force of almighty nature lies at hand to be used spontaneously.

The beauty is that we don’t have to do anything to use it, no, we have only to stand on our feet [laughter]. And the feet of life is Being. So when our life stands on the feet, means stands on the basis of Being, then we are supported from all sides. And if can’t stand on our feet, then we have to be dependent on others all the time. To gain the support of almighty nature our every aspiration must be supported by all aspects of our existence. If we don’t gain the support of different aspects of our own individual life, how do we deserve the support of the almighty Nature? And even if one expects, the expectation will be futile, it never becomes to be fulfilled. See, the business man who does not put all his wealth in the market, how he can gain the profit of the whole market? Some millionaire, if he goes to the bank for ten thousand rupees–ten thousand, (this is) nothing, you have millions, a millionaire you are and you bring out your million and then we could give you another million or two million. But if you are reserving your million, asking for a few thousand, who will give you? No, once one is fully out... As long one has reserved in oneself–he should bring out the reserve, if he wants more and more effect. And if one is exhausted, fully brought out, all Being, supporting thought and action, and then there is nothing within the scope of the individual life that could be brought out more into the field of action. Then the force of almighty nature is there to support. If one has not brought out himself fully, then if he wants more support, fine, bring out from one’s own Self. And if one is not able to bring out from one’s own Self the reserve, then he is incapable of using whatever is given to him. What is the proof then that if the almighty nature begins to support, he will be able to use it? Incompetency of using one’s own reserves, brings proof to the almighty nature that no more he deserves to be given from our side.

Question: The greater the investment does not necessarily mean the greater the profit

Maharishi: At least greater stability in business, and that is all that is needed. And profit will be there in proportion to the investment. The profit is always in proportion to the investment. Less investment, less profit–more investment, more profit. And the banks are very willing to pay to a flourishing business man [laughter]. Unlimited (...) of the bank is open to those who flourish.
Transcendental Meditation in Mumbaihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08932097069572341041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181310761581676246.post-45354891104795130422020-09-07T04:06:00.001-07:002020-09-16T04:46:55.827-07:00Creativity, Relaxation and Transcendental Meditation

Creativity has something to
do with relaxation. Somehow we get our best ideas when we are in a situation
where there are no inhibitions, no worries, no limitations to the flight of our
mind. That’s when the mind is fluid and free flowing and in this state good
ideas seem to become more accessible. And we all know that a good idea is its
own reward.

For many of us this may
happen when we’re out in nature taking a walk, in the privacy of our bathrooms,
in a library or study, hanging out with our friends etc. There seems to be no
fixed rules about this yet the fact remains that in some situations we feel more
creative more able to use our mental capacity than in others. What is also a
fact is the more we chase or struggle after good ideas the less likely that they
will come. Somehow trying too hard makes the mind tense and superficial. The
very effort we make to be creative becomes the obstacle.

Whereas if we can just let
our minds be, the mind opens up and lends itself to deeper exploration. The
more we can let our mind be the more it lends itself to us. The more we
struggle with it the more it rebels. Letting the mind ‘BE’ however is easier
said than done.

Because letting the mind ‘BE’
would mean that we do less and less with it until the mind is so restful, so
self-sufficient that it does not even entertain a thought. This state of just ‘BEING’
has been known throughout the ages as
the state of Yoga, the meditative state, Samadhi etc. and has been coveted by
wise men all along as the fountainhead of creativity and intelligence within
us. The source of our thoughts.

In this state the mind is effortlessly
awake in its full potential beyond any limitation of thought, feeling or
identification. Ironically the source of thought is a place where no thought is
happening, where the mind is brimming with potential but not doing anything.
How then do we access it and make it useful in our day to day lives. How do we
maintain that abstract, relaxed, profound state of ‘BEING’ while we are in the
midst of mundane activities of day to day life.

This will require us to
incorporate a practice which allows us to expose ourselves to the experience of
‘BEING’ repeatedly on a day to day basis until it becomes familiar to us,
becomes a habit, becomes second nature. It will require us to integrate two
seemingly irreconcilable states, one is the abstract silent non active state of
BEING the other is the ordinary, mundane everyday state of thought and action.
This abstract state of ‘BEING’, a state of pure potentiality will find its
purpose and fulfillment in the concrete arena of our day to day lives when its
potential is utilised and realised.

To illustrate, lets take the
example of a soccer match. It involves players and spectators. The player is
the one who actually effects changes on the ground through his actions but can
only see whats in front of him. His options are limited by his narrow vision. Whereas
the spectator who is far removed from the game has a much broader vision of the
game even though he is incapable of doing anything. He has many more ideas
about what can be done as he is free from the pressures of being on the field. If somehow the two can be brought together the
player will gain the advantage of the broad vision of the spectator and the
spectator will see his vision being translated into successful action bringing fulfillment
to both.

The active mind is like the
player and the abstract state of pure BEING is like the spectator. When the two
are integrated and lived in one awareness then it has the potential to bring
greater fulfilment on both levels. As individuals wanting to live more
enriching fulfilling lives one is constantly nourished by the contact with the
state of BEING within. And the BEING within enjoys when its true potential is
realised through the actions of the individual.

The key to this phenomenon is
in the ability of the individual mind to contact the state of ‘BEING’. This is
where the easy, natural technique of Transcendental Meditation shines! Its a process
whereby the mind is allowed to naturally settle into the state of BEING by
systematically entertaining lesser and lesser mental activity. By Mental
activity we mean thought. A thought begins deep within the mind as a faint idea
and as it travels to the surface of the mind it assumes a more concrete form.
We then appreciate the thought as a concrete thought on the surface of the mind
and then make it further concrete in terms of speech and actions.

So speech and action is a
concrete form of thought, thought in turn is a concrete form of an idea, an
idea is a concrete form of a faint impulse deep within the mind and that faint
impulse is an expression of a possibility among infinite other possibilities that
exist in the state of BEING deep within the mind at the source of thought.
Therefore the un-manifest BEING expresses itself as thought which eventually leads
to concrete action.

During Transcendental
Meditation we experience a thought on the gross level and then systematically
experience it in its earlier and earlier stages of development until eventually
we arrive at the source of thought, the state of BEING which is the living
source of all of our mental activity. This journey from the outer gross level
of thinking all the way to abstract un-manifest BEING happens most
spontaneously and effortlessly as the mind enjoys every step of the way. The
normally outward going mind is turned within during meditation and just like
the mind wanders here and there ordinarily, during meditation it wanders inward
without any effort on our part.

Thus our goal of reaching the
creative essence of the mind is reached in a most natural manner. And as the
mind settles down it experiences greater and greater relaxation and is
therefore exposed to more fluid and unbounded aspects of the thought process.
Then outside of meditation the mind spontaneously maintains some of that
relaxed, expanded awareness in the midst of ordinary thought and activity. This
phenomenon is reinforced with regular practice of experiencing the state of
BEING and coming out and living that state of BEING in day to day life until we
start maintaining that state spontaneously throughout the day.

Its therefore not surprising
that research on Transcendental Meditation shows practitioners displaying
greater creativity, spontaneity, better learning ability, better memory among a
host of other benefits. It improves the overall use of our mental potential leading
to more successful, fulfilled lives. This technique is a simple tool at our
disposal for bringing greater fulfillment to our individual lives. The origins
of this technique go back to the hoary past of India and belongs to the Vedic
Tradition. It was made popular in the modern age by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who
taught it as a systematic science of experience and development of
consciousness. Millions of very successful people throughout the world practice
this simple technique and many attribute their success to the long term
practice of this meditation.

And it’s legitimate for any level of life to desire for higher level, for higher level. That is life! There is a word in Sanskrit: “Sansâr”, and Sansâr means “the World”. Sansâr and from the root it comes from: “Sansarati iti sansârah”, that is that which goes on and on and on it goes on, even though changing but it goes on, on, on, on. It’s natural. The whole process of evolution is carried on the basis of desire. So, desire is not the bondage - the inability to save our Self in the waves of desires is bondage. Desire is elevating. After a gap of a year and a half, we had the opportunity to host the TM Sidhi & Yogic Flying course in Mumbai. Here are some pictures of the event for you to enjoy.
The Tm Sidhi course is an advance meditation practice based on TM which involves consciously promoting a thought from the Transcendental field of consciousness so that the powerfully coherent thought comes to fulfilment quickly. This technique is described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as 'Samyama'.
Fortunately in this age Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has made the technique easily available to us as a powerful means of developing higher states of consciousness, so that our experience of life and living is transformed from one of suffering and inadequacies to bliss and abundance. JAI GURUDEV.
He was recognized as the 20th century’s leading authority on the subject of stress and its impact on human health.
Dr. Selye’s interest in the use of the Transcendental Meditation technique as a method to handle stress began in the 1970s after discussions he had with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Here are excerpts from Dr. Selye’s interview with author Robert Oates, which was published in his book, Celebrating the Dawn.
Dr. Selye:

“It was my good fortune to have spent almost an entire day with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at one of his international symposia. Ever since then I have felt it would be extremely fruitful to explore in detail the obvious physiological and psychological influence exerted by Transcendental Meditation on stress in the body.
“Research already conducted shows that the physiological effects of Transcendental Meditation are exactly the opposite to those identified by medicine as being characteristic of the body’s effort to meet the demands of stress.”

When you say that the effects of the Transcendental Meditation technique are the opposite of those resulting from stress, you mean that the results are the opposite of those produced when demands are made upon the body?
Dr. Selye:

“Yes. The research shows this for metabolism, breathing, skin resistance, blood lactate, brain waves and the cardiovascular system. The same way, the therapeutic effects of Transcendental Meditation on bodily derangements is most evident in the conditions known as ‘diseases of stress’ or ‘diseases of adaption’—especially in mental, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and hypersensitivity ailments—ailments caused by inappropriate responses to the stresses of everyday life.”

Maharishi claimed that if a person continues to meditate, the system dissolves stress progressively and cumulatively, and that eventually it is possible to live life free from stress altogether. Do you also see this as a possibility for the human nervous system?
Dr. Selye:

“Well, we are talking about different definitions of the word stress, and I think that even though this conversation is meant for nonmedical people, we should keep it absolutely correct scientifically. And if we use the medical definition of stress, then it isn’t the object of Transcendental Meditation or any other technique or medicine to annul all stress.”

Why not?
Dr. Selye:

“Without some level of stress, we couldn’t even be talking now!”

It takes some level of stress to talk?
Dr. Selye:

“The definition of stress is the response to any demand. Even while you sleep, even while you are under anesthesia, you have some stress because you are using some part of your body—your heart pumps, your respiration goes on.”

So talking about it simply, the difference in the definitions is that when Maharishi uses the word stress he definitely means something negative, but the medical definition can mean something either positive or negative.
Dr. Selye:

“Yes. You see, when I created the concept I didn’t think of this difference, I called it stress. But then there was often confusion. The general public uses stress and distress as synonymous, but they are not. The stress of pain, of sorrow, of nervousness, of suffering—that’s bad stress, distress. But the stress of creation, or the stress of being able to achieve by taking things in a resilient way, you don’t want to eliminate that. So there is good stress (technically ‘eustress’) or bad stress (‘distress’) but the response to any demand is stress. There is always stress, so the only point is to make sure that it is useful to yourself and useful to others.”

So then, using these terms, how would you define the usefulness of the Transcendental Meditation technique?
Dr. Selye:

“I would refer to it as a method which so relaxes the human central nervous system that it can live with stress better, that it doesn’t suffer from stress, without losing all it’s useful effects. Transcendental Meditation prepares the nervous system for all activity. It’s the nervous system, after all, that is the major source of pleasant stress or distress, of satisfaction or dissatisfaction. And I think that if you can influence the nervous system through Transcendental Meditation so that it can really relax, really be at it’s best in responding non-specifically to any demand, that is an ideal solution.”

Hans Hugo Bruno Selye (1907-1982) is known as “the father of stress.” As early 1926, still only in his second year of medical school, Dr. Selye began developing his now-famous theory of the influence of stress on people’s ability to cope with and adapt to the pressures of injury and intense experience. Through his life-long study and research he concluded that stress plays some role in the development of every disease and that failure to cope with stress can result in “diseases of adaptation” such as ulcers, high blood pressure and the many other diseases that are caused or complicated by stress.
Dr. Selye held three doctorate (M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc.) and was 43 times a Doctor Honoris Causa. Selye wrote some 39 books and more than 1,700 articles on stress and related problems. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize 10 times.

If all knowledge is contained in the starting point and the starting point contains complete knowledge of all future developments, does it mean that everything is predetermined and that there is no free will?

Maharishi says that there is 100% determination and 100% free will. Determination is related to the past, free will is related to the present. Our actions in the past have created the situation in which we fi nd ourselves in the present. Th ese past actions have reduced our choices to hose available at the present time.
To this extent our actions are determined. In the present we can exercise our free will and choose among the available choices of action. If, for example, we are on a journey and have reached London, our journey to London has limited our choices for further transportation to those available in London. However, from the transportation in London we can choose freely, exercising our free will. Knowledge of the future helps
us to make the right choices and manage our life more perfectly. Th e relationship between determination, free will, and knowledge of the future can also be seen from a diff erent perspective. Maharishi said that everything in the universe is fi xed from beginning to end. At the moment the universe was born, all knowledge of what would happen within its lifespan was already present. Prediction of the future
with the help of the mathematics of Vedic Astrology is possible only because everything is fixed from beginning to end. Evolution fl ows in a predetermined direction. The individual can use his free will to be in tune with the evolutionary fl ow, to act in tune with all the Laws of Nature. Or he can choose to oppose evolution. An individual who has reached the state of enlightenment will naturally use his free will
to act in accord with all the Laws of Nature. A religious person would say, ‘Let Thy will be done’. Unenlightened individuals will only act in accord with the Laws of Nature in relationship to their level of consciousness. The Vedic texts discuss the question as to what is more important, the actions in the past that have determined our life and created the current situation, or the actions in the present that are meant to change the current situation. Th ey very much praise the eff orts made in the present, because it is in the present that we can overcome any negativity from the past, whereas the past is no longer accessible. An individual should always try to overcome the negativity from the past; whether he succeeds or not, it is a praiseworthy eff ort. Th e most effi cient way to improve the situation in which we fi nd ourselves is through Maharishi Yagya performances which directly enliven the Laws of Nature, thereby bringing nourishment to our life and reducing negativity created in the past.
